The Fragrance Experience
Kinam has always been one of the oils and aromas closest to my heart. When I took part in the Cairo Nights collection, I wanted my contribution to express the scent of kinam in the evening while carrying something of Cairo and Egyptian memory within it.
The idea was to bring kinam together with an aroma Egyptians know and love: black tea with mint.
It is a familiar, comforting scent that accompanies long gatherings and conversations continuing late into the night. I added a touch of basil, then surrounded the scene with layers of Crimean and Taif roses. From this, Kinam Nights was born: a deep and opulent nocturnal kinam carrying the warmth of tea, the freshness of herbs, and the scent of roses.
The fragrance opens with Madinah mint, fresh and green, accompanied by the distinctive aromatic character of Madinah basil. This cool herbal opening moves through the air like the first breeze of a quiet evening, gradually preparing the way for what follows.
As the greenery begins to settle, black tea takes shape within the heart: dark and warm, still carrying traces of the mint from the opening. This is where the Egyptian idea behind the fragrance comes fully into view: black tea with mint, now infused with roses, kinam, and Hainan oud.
Crimean rose glows within the heart, while Taif rose adds dewy, refined radiance. Between these layers of rose, wild Hainan oud reveals its softly fruity character, giving the composition natural sweetness and fullness that balance the aromatic greenery of the tea and herbs.
Crystalline Hainan kinam then reveals its character: green, cooling, and penetrating, with the distinctive medicinal clarity of kinam. It does not appear separately from the materials around it. Instead, it moves through the tea, roses, and Hainan oud, giving the heart its brilliance and depth.
At one moment, black tea with mint reaches you clearly. At another, green kinam emerges surrounded by roses. Then the fruity facets of Hainan oud come forward, before the kinam returns in a cooler, more crystalline form.
As the fragrance settles, the kinam becomes smoother and richer. Creamy kinam emerges with deep aromatic warmth, while Crimean rose absolute lends the base velvety depth and dark honeyed richness.
At the foundation of the composition, raw kinam wood remains present, connecting every stage of the fragrance to its origin. The mint and basil gradually recede, yet their traces continue to move quietly through the tea, roses, and wood for many hours.
