Muhammad Islamov — Perfumer & Oud Distiller
Muhammad Islamov’s journey began in the forests of Southeast Asia, where he learned to recognise resin-rich agarwood and select the finest wood for distillation. Most By Islamov fragrances are built around oud oils that he has personally distilled from carefully chosen wood. He also distils and prepares several of the other raw materials used in his compositions.
Every By Islamov fragrance is composed entirely of 100% natural materials, including wild oud oils, precious woods, deer musk, roses, resins, and botanical extracts. Each material is selected with exceptional care for its origin, character, and the story it carries. Every fragrance begins with a story, and its materials are chosen to give that story an olfactory form.
Most By Islamov creations also carry the house’s distinctive signature: selected materials and compositions aged within desert sands, drawing on ancient traditional techniques that allow the earth, heat, and time to shape the fragrance’s final character.
Islamov’s journey developed through years of creating fragrances and working closely with perfumer Taha Syed, whom he considers both a mentor and a friend. From this journey, By Islamov was born as a personal expression of his experience, carrying each material from its origin in nature to its final expression on the skin.
How it started
A fascination with what a scent can hold.
Long before the first bottle was ever filled, Islamov was drawn to a simple question: how could a scent carry more than a smell — how could it hold a memory, a place, a person? That question became a practice, and the practice became a body of work built one fragrance at a time.
Every material is chosen for what it can express, not just how it performs — which is why rare ingredients like kinam and aged oud sit at the heart of his creations.
