The Fragrance Experience

All the scents of the world of oud in a single drop.

Four aged oud oils. Four jungles. Four distinct voices, brought together in one harmony.

The story of Q Atique is different from anything that came before it.

It began with four oud oils I love on a deeply personal level — four rare oils, each with its own character, its own memories, its own place in my heart. Each one could stand alone as a complete oud oil in its own right, each carrying the scent and voice of its own jungle.

The first is an aged, sticky Cambodian oud oil, between twenty-five and thirty years old. One of the most beautiful Cambodian oud oils I’ve ever experienced, and one of the closest to my heart. I used it in Yakutian Musk and in several of our signature perfumes, and the blend I created from it with Yakutian deer musk is among my most beloved combinations. I kept a large portion of it for myself, and I always love to wear it generously.

It is a dense, sticky, resinous oud, carrying a velvety sweetness and an aged warmth that only years can create.

The second is an aged Pursat Cambodian oud oil. Entirely different in character, yet no less beautiful. A rich, deep oil, carrying a dense resinous sweetness and a soft, syrupy texture, revealing another face of Cambodian oud — fuller and rounder, where dark woods intertwine with the warmth of amber and resin.

Then comes a wild oud oil from southern Papua, one of the most beautiful Papua oils I’ve worked with, which I used in Kambo Sumi. It carries a rougher, more powerful woody soul, with shadows of a dark jungle and traces of smoke that appear and vanish without ever dominating the fragrance. It holds a dryness and firmness that give the blend its structure and depth.

The fourth oil is a Malaysian oud from northern Malaysia, near the Thai border, which I distilled myself at our facility using a different technique. It is among the Malaysian oud oils dearest to me — green, bright, and full of life, carrying the energy and humidity of the jungle, with a refreshing sparkle and a vitality that almost shimmers above the woods.

I loved each of these oils individually, and each holds a special place for me. But Taha Sayed always used to tell me that I love blending different oud oils, and that these blends often reveal remarkable results to me.

And the truth is, if I have learned how to combine oud oils this way, I learned it from Taha — he is the master of us all in this art.

When the idea of bringing the four oils together came to me, I made the blend and said to Taha:

“I’m going to let you try something you’ll love.”

He asked me what it was, but I asked him to wait until he smelled it, and then tell me his opinion.

Taha tried it, and kept contemplating the scent before saying a single sentence that summed up all of Q Atique:

“You’ve gathered every scent in the world of oud into a single drop.”

And that is truly the character of Q Atique.

Pursat oud dissolves into the sticky Cambodian oud, and the Papua oil melts into the Malaysian oud. The borders between the jungles fade, and the individual identity of each oil disappears, giving rise to a scent greater than all of them combined.

The oud is no longer Cambodian, or Papuan, or Malaysian.

What remains is simply oud — the scent of oud in its fullest, most complete form.

The aged Cambodian oud gives the blend its density and velvety, resinous sweetness. From within it emerge hints of tobacco and a dark warmth reminiscent of aged amber, while the Pursat oud adds a rich, syrupy depth and layers of resin and polished wood.

The Malaysian oud enters with its dryness, its woody strength, and its smoky shadows, giving the fragrance cohesion and a darker dimension. Then the Malaysian oud passes through like a green breeze from the jungle, lifting the blend with its sparkle and vitality and keeping it from settling into heaviness.

Fruity facets appear for a fleeting moment, then dissolve into the precious woods. Notes of tobacco rise from the depths before being carried away by the greenness of the Malaysian oud. Smoke appears in quick glimpses, adding contour and depth to the fragrance without ever overwhelming it.

Every time you smell Q Atique, you may notice a different facet: sometimes the dense Cambodian sweetness, sometimes the dryness and smoke of the Papua oil, then a luminous Malaysian greenness, or a dark tobacco rising from the heart of the woods. But no single facet lingers alone for long; whenever one of the oils tries to assert its identity, it dissolves once again into the other three.

The magic of Q Atique lies not only in the rarity of its four oud oils, but in the way they surrendered their individual identities to create one complete, unified scent.

Sweet and dry.
Dark and radiant.
Dense, yet carrying air and movement within it.

An oil rich enough to give the seasoned oud lover new details to discover with every wear, and balanced enough to become an oud one can return to again and again.

Q Atique is what happens when geography fades away, and only the oud remains.

Core Materials

Aged sticky Cambodian oud oil, aged Pursat Cambodian oud oil, wild oud oil from southern Papua, and Malaysian oud oil from northern Malaysia near the Thai border.

Olfactory Development

1. Opening: Jungle greenness, a bright flash of Malaysian oud, fruity and resinous facets.
   
2. Heart: Dense Cambodian oud, velvety sweetness, dark tobacco, amber warmth, and polished woods.
   
3. Base: Dry Papua oud, aged woods, deep resins, and quiet touches of smoke.
