The Fragrance Experience
The story of Kinam Premier Oil began with my enduring passion for exploring the world of kinam and discovering the different facets this rare material can reveal.
Together with my dear friend Taha Syed, I was exploring three different oils: one made from certified genuine kinam and two distinct wild Hainan oud oils. Each possessed its own beauty and character, but I was particularly drawn to the kinam’s pure greenery and remarkable clarity.
I had placed the three oils close to one another. Before even blending them, their aromas began to meet in the air. What reached me was entirely different from the scent of any one oil on its own. It felt richer and more complete, as though each oil had revealed a hidden facet within the other two.
At that moment, I decided to blend them.
The result was unexpectedly beautiful. I called Taha over and asked him to smell the blend without telling him what it contained. His reaction was immediate and spontaneous:
“What is this? Where did you find it? Which oil is this?”
He could not identify it as any one of the oils we had explored because together they had become something entirely new. I told him that it was the same three oils combined, and that I was just as excited by the result.
We decided to leave the blend for a while and observe how it developed.
After half an hour, and then an hour, the aroma began to open more beautifully in the air. A brightness reminiscent of lemon peel emerged, threaded with a delicate honeyed sweetness, while the kinam remained at the center with its greenery, purity, and cool medicinal character.
At that moment, I knew this combination had to remain.
I returned to the three oils and refined their proportions until each facet appeared exactly as I wanted: the clarity of kinam, its crystalline greenery, the warmth of Hainan oud, and the resinous and honeyed nuances created by their meeting.
From this chance discovery, Kinam Premier Oil was born.
